It’s been a busy week in and around Sandton. As always, we’ve collated the stories you need to know about – forewarned is forearmed!

Video footage of armed robbery & attempted hijacking in Morningside

(Tuesday 5 February) – Video footage of an armed robbery and attempted hijacking on Middle Rd, Morningside has gone viral on social media.

The footage clearly shows the suspects making a getaway in a white VW Polo having robbed a female passenger in another vehicle of her handbag.

ACTION POINT: Make sure all handbags, laptop bags, cellphones and other valuables are carefully locked in the boot.

Shootout leads to the arrest of two suspects in Sandhurst

(Thursday 31 January) – According to CAP Security, three suspects driving a silver Chevrolet robbed a victim of valuablesĀ in the parking lot of the Dunkeld Shopping Centre.

Shortly afterwards, Tactical Units proactively patrolling in the Sandhurst environment identified a silver Chevrolet driving erratically.

A brief chase occurred and resulted in the suspects abandoning their vehicle and fleeing on foot. A shootout ensued and CAP’s Tactical Officers arrested two suspects (one of which was shot).

A firearm and motor vehicle were recovered. The third suspect is still at large.

Well done to CAP’s officers for their proactive approach and bravery, as well as to community members who provided accurate and real-time information of the incident in progress!

Sexual abuse hearing of Bryanston High School coach moves off-site

Bryanston High School’s school governing body has reportedly opted to MOVE the disciplinary hearing its school’s coaches to an undisclosed location. This follows the massive outcry when the 33year-old coach was arrested for alleged sexual assault of a 17-year old girl.

He appeared in the Alexandra Regional Court shortly after his arrest and is scheduled to appear in court on 12 March.

The school’s hearing took place on Wednesday 6 February at an undisclosed location.
