#HiddenGems – Frozen For You
Our second #HiddenGems instalment will be of great interest to those of us with kids going into exam month! Frozen For You is the new baby of the renowned By Word of Mouth catering company and offers delicious frozen homestyle meals that you will want to keep in your freezer!
To be fair, I have never been a fan of frozen meals but have become a recent convert thanks to Frozen For You. I actually walked into their Bryanston store by accident and was soon captivated by the displays of delicious-sounding meals. After much deliberation, I went with their Chicken a la King Pie (serves 4) – something that was devoured within minutes of coming out of the oven.
Needless to say, I was back the following week, this time in search of something that would help me cater for hungry hoards that weekend when I would have very little time to prepare. I discovered a Dauphinois Potato Bake (with crispy parmesan topping) that would be the perfect accompaniment to our braai, a Crusty Sourdough Bread, and a Tarte Au Citron that was spectacular with ice-cream on a hot day!
The result? I simply defrosted everything overnight, whipped up a green salad on the day, and had my guests oohing and aahing over my culinary skills. And yes, I confessed that I could not provide recipes but that I would be happy to provide directions to the store!
The menu does change each month, but I am pretty certain that the staples will remain. In the meantime, I have bought a number of midweek dinner options to keep in the freezer:
- Vegetarian Butternut, Sage and Lentil Lasagne (for meat-free Mondays)
- Thai Green Chicken Curry
- Beef Banting Lasagne
- Mac & Cheese
- Chorizo, Bean and Bacon Soup
- Salted Caramel Sauce
- Famous Chocolate Brownies
In terms of portion-sizes, there are a number of options to choose from. You can buy for 1, 2, 4 – 6 and 8 – 10 – so there really is something for everyone!
You can also have your items delivered to your home or office in the Sandton area – an added convenience!
It is a fantastic option to have – either when catering for a large family function, Book Club or braai. Or just when wanting a few midweek dinners in your freezer as back-up or for when you need a single portion at your disposal.
